Ethan and Owen practice medicine overseas until Owen drops dead without warning. Ethan slips back home and slides into his brother's shoes, moving into Owen's house and climbing into bed with widow Claire, who has no clue her husband is gone for good. The charade holds until Ethan's own wife Willa uncovers the fraud. Stunned and already carrying his child, she hides the pregnancy and disappears rather than face him. Months later word reaches Ethan that Willa is about to walk down the aisle with another man, and the guilt finally cracks him open. He abandons the borrowed life and sets out to find her, gambling everything on a confession that could destroy what little trust remains.
